Baba Ijebu Donates Multi Million Naira Library To Alma Mata - Baptist Academy Obanikoro

Shot of Shepherdhill Church Where The Service Was Held
A school known to have churned out greats like Prof. Idowu Shobowale, nollywood star Funsho Adeolu, Late Bisi Onabanjo, Late Bridagier general Ekundayo Popoola, Sir Kessington Adebutu ( Baba Ijebu), Chairman of Channels Television John Momoh,  Ijebu Chief and Glo big boy Babatunde Banjoko, AIT boss Tony Akiotu, top journalist, actor & CEO of Guguru Fm Kingsley Momoh, Surgeon and diplomat Chukwuma Igbokwe, former top sprinter & member of AFN technical group Gabriel Okon, famous London based Scrabble master Sam Okosaga and much more must have been around for a while. This is the story of one of the oldest schools in Nigeria. On record, it was founded in 1855 by a certain Reverend Haden who got the permission of then Oba of Lagos, Dosunmu to use a piece of land for a kindergarten school which overtime blossomed to the great Baptist Academy also know with many aliases like Lagos Baptist Academy, Baptacad, Aca boys etc.

Former HSC block

On Wednesday, yours truly was on facebook and saw that the school was going to have her founder's day commemoration and since I was just around the corner on that day, I decided to take a peep at what they were up to. I met a couple of old men who decided to be young for the sake of the event all glowing with joy. It was a great sight and it got me to immediately start praying for a time like this when I will hook up with my friends that went to school with me.
Baba Ijebu and BAOSA executives
I also met Sir Kessignton Adebutu the popular Baba Ijebu. It wasn't like we discussed anything. i was standing in front of him and sizing him up. I looked at his white shoes, the double gold chains that hung from his neck down to his groin area with crosses as pendants and his long robe made of lace material. The Baba no wan gree  however, he is bowing to nature with style.

I also met a guy ( although not for the first time); I discovered to be of immense strength and clarity of purpose, Kingsley Momoh. He is a fellow blogger and I must add - a visionary journalist whose passion for the job sees him smiling at all times ( I can't remember him without a smile).  His Guguru FM vision challenges a lot of people. And more interesting is the fact that he is also an old student! He shocked me when he told me that he left the school 22 years ago! Men, some people  are blessed with young looks!

Rev Supo At The New ICT Lab

Well, a lot of the old boys were looking good in their attires which mostly had a touch of the school colours of white, navy blue and red. The president of the Nigeria Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Supo was in high spirits as he commissioned the newly built kitchen and the ICT lab. And lest I forget to add, the Reverend is also the president of the christian association of Nigeria. I carefully looked at him as if to see if he had any look of Corrup churn. Please pardon me because the kind of situation this country is right now, we all seem to have the liberty to suspect anybody of Corrup churn.

Baptacad Students At The Church

Anyway, what is there to chop in the building of a library? But...but..but...Sir Adebutu was concerned about the incomplete complete new library! He wondered why it was not completed fully because the funds were given out in good time. According to information, it was given out 2 years ago! So I guess madam Prince Pal should work harder next time and not with just 2 tichas. With the way Baba Ijebu spoke, if such a thing happens again, na only the Prince pal go waka go!

I noticed that the school is blessed with a system that keeps the students orderly despite the large crowd of visitors. And interesting indeed was when I noticed that many of the parents have their children as students of the school.

Another thing I must add before I pause in my comeback piece is that the old students of Baptacad are very very proud of their former school and that has yielded a lot in the things they have done to improve the standard of the school.

Congrats all BAOSA.
